How Many Goals?

And that makes it 8 goals on 23 shots so far. The crowd goes wild when Conklin is put in. Which just feels wrong. Ao with 2, Malkin with 2. Who will the hats come down for tonight?

You know what’s funny? They are all wearing the number 87. Really.

Was this what the fans expected from the matchup of Ovechkin and Malkin? Maybe not, but they love it. And Poti vs Ruutu? It had better move up the ladder to Laraque vs. Brashear. It certainly isn’t a goalie duel so far.

Well, from where I sit, it’s still a game.

AHL and CHL Maps

I have been spending a little bit of today creating some maps of the minor league hockey teams throughout the United States. I did something similar on my old Windows laptop, but I have since switched to a Mac, and no longer have that map, nor local mapping software. I figure the best place to put this is online, and the best thing after that is to share it. So here is the start of the project:

American Hockey League map

Central Hockey League map

I plan on doing maps for the ECHL, IHL, USHL, NAHL, and the new MAHL, but I don’t know when I will have those done. In the meantime, the maps I have created will be stored in pages you can always access, with links in the sidebar. If you are going to a game and need directions, or just need to see a hockey game, you may find some teams near you that you have never heard of. The minor leagues usually offer a fun and entertaining brand of hockey, and plenty of bang for the buck. I have never left a minor league game thinking I got hosed in the money department.

Paul Stastny Out

And just when you thought it couldn’t get much worse for the offense of the Colorado Avalanche, Paul Stastny will miss a few weeks. From the Colorado Avalanche:

The Colorado Avalanche Hockey Club announced today that forward Paul Stastny will miss approximately two to three weeks after undergoing surgery this afternoon to remove his appendix.

What are you going to do, right? But still, what’s going to happen next?

“Paul experienced some pain in his abdominal area today,” said Avalanche Head Athletic Trainer Matthew Sokolowski. “Further examination by our medical staff following practice determined he needed the procedure. We expect him to fully recover in two to three weeks.”

There isn’t much you can do, except shrug and carry on. Life still happens, but this is just getting silly. The Avs have lost an entire first line of players at this point, and that isn’t even counting the Leopold injuries that have already happened this season.

Hat tip to Kukla.
