What’s a Tapeleg to do? After announcing the worst kept secret since the new jersey designs (oh, was that just last week?) , the NHL put tickets on sale for the first outdoor NHL game in the United States…
AND THEY SELL OUT IN FORTY MINUTES!!!!!!
I’m pissed. Just saying.
Aside from the fact that there was no limit to the amount of tickets any entity could buy – leaving a market ripe for scalpers – there were tickets reserved for Sabres season ticket holders, Penguins STHs, Maple Leafs STHs, and Blue Jays STHs. Ummm…. What?
The best this can be described as would be another screw up by the NHL. They got what they wanted by selling out the game, but it’s hard to look at this as something fun for the fans, which is what it should be. It’s obvious – and should have been since the Heritage Classic – that this sort of event is something the fans are clamoring for, but this leaves a sour taste in my mouth.
Looks like we are going to be hitting ebay for a few months. But with prices like this? I kind of doubt it.
Prices may come down in a month or so, but this is outrageous.
For more pissed off blogging, check out American Hockey Fan (pissed and uber-pissed), and for more of a journalistic view, you can look here or here, but it will just piss you off. Unless you have tickets. Then it may just make you feel warm and fuzzy inside.
